Joy Langley is a certified Coach and Stress Management Therapist based in the UK. She is also the author of “Navigating Stress” (released in 2021). In Joy’s view, we all need to recognize the things in life that stress us out, then commit to changing negative emotional patterns, behaviors and thinking habits. Her big mission is to alleviate human suffering. She does this by helping people get back to their “happy” place via transformational coaching and therapy conversations.

The maternal side of Joy’s family have a history of poor mental health. Joy experienced anxiety and depression during her 20s. Then tragically in 2018 her 23yr old son Riaz-Jaye committed suicide (the day after Joy’s birthday), after living with bipolar for longer than he could bear. Joy’s also had more than her fair share of close family bereavements so mental and emotional well-being are a non-negotiable way of life! Joy says  no one should be asked to sacrifice health (burnout), relationships or their sanity because of the rules of their industry or profession.

In this conversation with Joy, we talk about her background, her family and history of mental illness.  We delve into navigating stress and burnout especially for high achievers, how our thoughts lie to us and how they also create our reality, and what it means to be who you are.

NOTE: In this episode, we discuss suicide, depression, anxiety and other mental illnesses. If you have children nearby, please consider wearing headphones. If you’re not in a mental and emotional space to listen to this conversation due to the discussion topic for any reason, please skip it. Your wellbeing is a priority.
